James Long Autumn/Winter 2014 Collection

Of futuristic and abstraction design, the inspiration for James Long AW14 is primitive sci-fi and cosplay (costume play).

In space suit white, the hood of this quilted jacket gives the appearance of an astronaut’s wide cowl-style neckline without the helmet.

Casual quilted outerwear reigns supreme in this collection bulking out the torso and arms for a sci-fi superhero’s muscular physique

Padded coats, jackets and sweatshirts reminiscent of bubble wrap stood out for their sections of different sized quilted patterns highlighted by trim.

The quilted cropped bomber style jackets are reversible. This open jacket gives a glimpse of how the reverse would look like – a layer of mesh covers the padding making it visible underneath. Slim fit polo neck knits are prominent in the collection and updated with prints of abstract shapes.

Jogging pants have two layers of mesh over grey jersey creating an optical illusion of light spots.  The mesh is also used on tops and jackets.

For the slimmer ‘lighter on his feet’ hero look, fitted jackets adorned with both mesh and coloured abstract panels sculpt the body. These abstract panels of coloured satin could also be seen on boxy shaped sweatshirts worn over polo necks.

A smarter option to the joggers is the straight legged trousers in dark denim with jacquard pattern emulating the actual mesh in the collection.

Leather tops and jackets are laser cut and embellished with blue and black ribbons interwoven through the perforations creating a knitting pattern effect.

Collaborating with Kurt Geiger London, the baseball boots were designed especially for the collection and incorporate the mesh panels. For more information check out http://www.kurtgeiger.com/james-long-collaboration
